A Handmade Birthday Party!

I had a great time getting ready for my son’s first birthday party. I choose a dinosaur theme because for some reason it seems my son is always growling at me (like a dinosaur) so it seemed appropriate. I found this great open source software program online called InkScape which I hear is a lot like Adobe Illustrator but its FREE! I used it to create all the paper designs as well as the iron on transfer onesie he wore for the cake photo. Turns out my son doesn’t have a sweet tooth

You can download the program at www.inkscape.org. I was worried about viruses but so far so good. It’s been on my computer now for about 5 months and still running strong. I created cupcake toppers, 2 banners, Frisbee and water bottle and bubble bottle labels. I highly recommend this program if you are looking to DIY your kids next party. It’s a great way to save some $$ and it was fun to manipulate shapes into cute prehistoric animals! Have Fun!

Holiday Craft Fair, November 5th 2011

Sweet Harvest is participating in the 2nd Annual Joyful Noise Holiday Bazaar and Bake Sale sponsored by The Hammond Foundation to raise money for college scholarships to support local students. More information can be found on their website link here - The Joyful Noise Holiday Bazaar

I have been busy working on some new items for sale including children's teepees (now available in my esty shop) and new tactile games and activities for the little ones.  I hope to have them ready in time for the show. I look forward to seeing you there. Please stop by and do some holiday shopping and introduce yourself!

All the Best,

Ok, so my wedding was many moons ago now and I have been holding on to these ladybug wine charms we gave to guests as favors.  I am offering them on my etsy.com page as I have several remaining (I tend to overestimate) Here is a picture of what they looked like on the tables.  Visit my site to see an actual picture of the individual charms.

Happy Valentine’s Day – almost!

I have been crafting away on these adorable Conversation Heart Magnets and Ladybug Magnets  for sale at my etsy shop at: http://www.sweetharvestonline.etsy.com/. My inspiration came from creating magnets for my family during the holidays with their faces. They turned out really cute! Now we have the entire family on the fridge!

I have since been rummaging around for old paper scraps and made some new designs seen below. These are very easy to create but the cabochons are difficult to locate in traditional store. I ended up finding a supplier online who had the 1 inch clear cabochons. You can make these using smaller cabs found at local craft stores – they are often used as decoration in vases and with candles but their clarity is not as brilliant and the size was not ideal.

I Made Marshmallows!

Homemade marshmallows are so much better than store bought and they don't melt as fast in your cocoa.
My sister came over this weekend and we played around with a recipie we found on the website Cooking with Engineers:
http://www.cookingforengineers.com/recipe/106/Marshmallows

These were so much fun to make - it felt like we were conducting a science experiment in the kitchen!

I would recommend a smaller pan or doubling the recipe - my marshmallows were flatter than I had hoped when they were cooled and cut. Be sure to coat the pan well with powdered sugar- they are sticky!
I plan on adding some flavors to the next batch - maybe peppermint or chocolate.

Happy Marshmallow making!

Holidays, Babies and Crafts - oh my!

So many things going on with the holidays upon us - only 14 days till Christmas! Shopping, cooking, finding time to spend with friends and family.  With so many things already going on I can't seem to figure out why my crafty brain seems to be on hyper-drive! Maybe in an effort to save a little money on gifts this year I am plotting less expensive homemade ways to say Merry Christmas to those I love.  I am finding though that is not always the case.  By the time I have figured out how I want something to look I have spent more than it would have cost just to buy the item - I am being rather vague here in case those loved ones I am crafting for read this blog before they open their Christmas packages.  - I'll post pictures and DIY instructions after the 25th :)

In addition to all the fun surround the holidays babies seem to be sprouting up everywhere.  I can't wait to meet my new nephew by friendship in a few days.  What a great holiday gift! We are also expecting a special package!  So much to plan as we get ready for a newborn - I should be cleaning up my craft projects (or clutter piles as my family calls them) but I keep digging into them.

I think I'll blame it on the cold weather keeping me in doors for now.
